The sun is out and I feel like eating fruit

Hi there,

I know, I know, I haven't posted in quite a few days. Got stuck with a huge amount of work to do. I spend all my time in my books and writing and I'm fed up of being glued to my desk. That doesn't mean I neglect my nails, although my cuticles feel a bit left out (Loodie will surely kill me if she sees them!).

Since the sun has been shining quite a bit the past few days and I haven't really had a chance to be outside and take advantage of this nice weather, I decided I was in desperate need of a bright and shiny polish. My choice: China Glaze's Watermelon rind.

Gosh I love this polish in all of it's shimmery green-blue splendor. I'm wearing two coats of it in the pictures.

Essence's Gold Old Buffy

Today I have a beautiful Essence polish to show you: Gold Old Buffy from the Limited edition Vampire collection that came out a little while back.

As it's name indicates, Gold Old Buffy is a green polish infused with tons of gold shimmer (or glass flecks?). It reminds me a bit of a mix between Night Porter (Nars), Warm and Fozzie (OPI) and Wagon Trail (China Glaze).

The formula was excellent: no streaks, bubbles or bald patches and was totally opaque in 2 coats.

As a topcoat I used my usual Revlon Fast Drying TC.

What do you think of this beauty?

Nars - Night Porter

Today I have a gorgeous Nars polish to show you:  Night Porter which is a dark metallic forest green with mustard/gold colored shimmers.

Depending on the light, it can seem very dark, almost black, or rather bright, I'm thinking almost emerald green.

One word: stunning!

I applied two easy coats followed by Revlon's Fast drying topcoat.

There were 3 polishes in this collection that came out during Fall; I also got Night Flight which I will be wearing shortly. Have you tried any of them?

Essie's Over the Edge

How have you guys been? I haven't been posting much recently but have many new gorgeous polishes to show you in the coming days.

Essie's retail line finally hit the racks in France and I'm so happy about that. So the other day I went a bit crazy and purchased some gorgeous polishes.
Although I live in Switzerland, the border is only a few minutes away. If you look at a map, you'll notice that Geneva is surrounded by France.

Let's begin with Over the Edge. I had been eyeballing this polish for months but just couldn't resolve ordering it on the net because I've had too many bad surprises and didn't want to spend my pennies on a polish I'd only wear once.
You might be familiar with Over the Edge, one of the many gunmetal gray polishes you can find on the market. It looks a bit like the color of a black pearl but doesn't have as many green undertones as Chanel's version (Black pearl). I have that one as well and will soon post a picture to compare.

Over the Edge's formula was great: 2 coats for complete opacity and no streaks, bubbles or bald patches. For my topcoat I used Revlon's Quick Dry Topcoat, one of the best TC I've tried, but you surely already know that as I've written about it before and many bloggers rave about it.

OPI's Wocca Wocca

Hello my dears!

How are you doing? Did you have a nice Thanksgiving? Mine was great but I ate too much!

Today I have another OPI polish from the Muppets collection to show you: Wocca Wocca.

I wasn't crazy about the formula, a bit runny and thick at the same time. On the other hand, the color is gorgeous: a maroon base drenched with fuschia/red shimmers. It reminds me of a ruby or a garnet in sunlight.

This polish is similar to OPI's I'm Not Really a Waitress, only a tad more blue based.

I applied 2 coats followed by INM's Out the door (I really love that topcoat).

OPI's Royal Rajah Ruby

Hi lacquered ladies (and gents if some of you read my posts),

How are you all doing? Managed to remove every last trace of your sticky Halloween makeup? :)

Today I have a gorgeous vampy polish to show you: Royal Rajah Ruby.

I've been wanting to pick this one up for ages and finally decided to since I'm in such a dark polish phase right now.

Royal Rajah Ruby bears it's name well, although it's shade could also be qualified as garnet. It's a classic blackened red drenched in ruby colored shimmers. Simply gorgeous.

The formula wasn't as great as I hoped it would be: a little too thick and tricky to apply. I had to add a few drops of thinner before even using it, and even then it was still too thick.

Two coats were needed due to the bald patches caused by the polishe's consistency. I topped the lacquer off with one coat of Sèche and didn't experience any shrinkage.

What do you think of Royal Rajah Ruby? Have you ever tried it?

OPI's Cuckoo For This Color

Hello lacquer lovers!

As a good Swiss, I had to show you at least one of the polishes from OPI's Swiss collection (Autumn/Winter 2010). I chose Cuckoo For This Color, a beautiful shimmery dark teal-ish turquoise. My camera didn't capture the shade of this polish too well so I guess you are going to have to use your imagination a bit here!

I must say, it bears it's name very well: I'm already cuckoo for this color!

The formula was fine, just a little streaky and each layer took a while to dry... To have an extra smooth finish, I applied 3 coats.

Since I'm kind of breaking up with Sèche Vite (too much shrinkage; too thick even when I use thinner etc.), I used China Glaze's Fast Forward topcoat instead to speed up the drying time. I much prefer it to Sèche Vite because it doesn't cause any shrinkage, at least not with the polishes I've tried it with so far. It even has a nice smell (well let's agree here, no polishes actually have a nice odor whilst they are wet, but Fast Forward's smell is much better than Sèche Vite's). It doesn't dry lacqer quite as swiftly as Sèche Vite, but the end result is the same because it also smoothes all the little imperfections you can get with certain polishes.

OPI's I'm not really a waitress

Hi!

I hope you are all having a nice weekend. Mine's been pretty busy and will be even more tomorrow!

For today's mani I used OPI's I'm not really a waitress, a deep crimson red shimmer polish with burgundy undertones. Such a gorgeous shade.

The formula was great; this could be a one coater if you apply it carefully. I chose to put 2 coats on.

I don't know if this polish stains so I put 2 coats of my basecoat on. My nails are still pretty badly stained by The one that got away so I didn't want the situation to get even worse!
